We all drove to Yellowstone Park today. It was about a two hour drive to Old Faithful through the Grand Teton National Park. While we were at Yellowstone, we wanted to get to at least 3 main attractions on the southern loop. You’d really have to spend much longer there to see everything. We made it to Old Faithful, the Yellowstone Grand Canyon, the Painters Pot, along with a few other scenic stops. All in all, it was a 12 hour day.
There were plenty of boiling, sulfuric, water spots near Old Faithful. We were careful not to step off the path as to avoid becoming a statistic. (I am glad I read the "Deaths of Yellowstone" book AFTER we visited. The ones involving falling into the hot springs are truly horrific).
At Yellowstone, the heat underground acts as a double boiler and heats the rocks until they melt.
